Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6

Last year, I had a great opportunity to take part in Fast and Furious 6 at Shepperton Studios. The project involved translations from Chinese to English, designed and produced graphics for print and by hand, as well as assisting the Art Department to decorate the set! Let's just say that by the end of the afternoon, I could stick vinyl print with water spray and a squidgey quite quickly! Never the less, it was amazing to see my artwork come to life and the set definitely reminded me of my other home Hong Kong.

Here are the featured graphics.

It's been a while

It has been a while. Since my last post, work had been hectic. I started Phantom Limb Limited with Jason Arber, acting as Producer, which gave me a chance to experience and develop my ability with project management. So far, we've worked with corporate clients on various animations as well as 2 live action projects. The third one is a recent commissioned short film for Channel 4's Random Act series. So exciting.

No, I haven't hung up my design boots. I am still creating a lot of wonderful things for the fast growing Riddle Box Limited. I also took on exciting project such as graphics for Fast and Furious 6 set.

Will update my portfolio soon...

The collective creative playground

It is always daunting to make changes. Recently, I decided to restructure my business, not only to diverse the range of work I can provide, but also joint the creative playground of Phantom Limb Limited

I hesitated to join our businesses together at first as I didn't want to loose the sense of identity I have created with DESIGNBYRINA. However, by joining with Phantom Limb, it doesn't mean I have change my creative directions as such. In fact, as a collective, not only we can increase the variety of products and services we could provide, we also increase the client base as well.

On a personal level, this also gives me an opportunity to experience new parts of a creative business, allowing me to combine my love of project management with creativity together. More importantly, I don't feel so alone running the business now. Yes, indeed, sole trading gives me the flexibility and a sense of freedom but two brains is better than one when it comes to strategies and decision making.

A new look on religion

Italian artist Igor Scalisi Palminteri from Palermo has always been fascinated by religiosity. For his series of sculptures titled Hagiographies, Palminteri transformed statues of saints, purchased in the street markets of Palermo, into superheroes by repainting the sacred works with bright acrylic paint, masking their faces and converting their traditional robes into capes and superhero garb bearing their recognizable symbols. Make of it what you will…

Never Underestimate Musical Believe (N.U.M.B.)

A website I designed recently for N.U.M.B. (Never Underestimate Musical Belief), an Alternative Hip Hop band storming the UK live music scene with their urban vibes, is now live.

Riddle Box Limited

Recently I was given a great opportunity to jump on board with Riddle Box Limited, a management consultants company with a difference, and taken on the Creative Director role. My first task was to create the company's website and it was not the most easy task.

Although I was given the ball and told to run with it, I have to constantly remind myself that it is a corporate site after all! Luckily, I think I striked the balance and managed a bit of my sense of humour in it too.

Happy Birthday Arabella!

Happy Birthday Arabella!

©2012 Photo and artwork by Rina Cheung.

A year ago, this little lady came into my life. The first time I met her, she was only 6 days old and just fitted on my palm. Today she has grown into a proper lady, caught her first bird and taken up half my bed space. She is now a permenant fixture in my office and I love her so much. Happy Birthday Arabella.

The Feltron Report

Recently, I am going back to my root (Graphic Information Design) and searching for inspiration and came across this chap! Nicholas Felton spends much of his time thinking about data, charts and our daily routines. He is the author of several Personal Annual Reports that weave numerous measurements into a tapestry of graphs, maps and statistics that reflect the year’s activities.
